WhatsApp for iPad Is Finally Here — After 15 Long Years

The wait is officially over — WhatsApp is finally available on the iPad! Yes, you read that right. After more than a decade of requests, Meta has launched a native WhatsApp app tailored specifically for Apple’s iPad, and it’s now available to download directly from the App Store.

Originally launched in 2009, WhatsApp actually predates the iPad, which made its debut in 2010. Since then, users have been clamoring for a proper iPad version of the world’s most popular messaging app. Up until now, your only options were using WhatsApp Web through a browser or relying on the desktop apps. But that all changes today.

The new iPad app brings all the essential features from the iPhone version and then some — including support for both front and rear cameras, the ability to make audio and video calls with up to 32 participants, and even screen sharing during calls.

It also takes full advantage of iPadOS features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, making multitasking a breeze. You can chat while watching videos, browsing the web, or even sketching with the Apple Pencil. If you’re using a Magic Keyboard, the experience becomes even more seamless, letting you switch between tasks without missing a beat.

As expected, messages are synced across devices, so you can pick up conversations where you left off — whether on your phone, desktop, or now, your iPad.

This long-overdue release marks a major win for iPad users, and it's a sign Meta may finally be listening to user feedback. With WhatsApp now checked off the list, all eyes are on the company’s next move — hopefully bringing a native Instagram app to iPads next.
